Treats for our troops: Halloween Candy Buyback

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAHalloween is one of the most popular holidays in America, and it’s also one of the most tempting. According to a survey done by the candy industry, 75 percent of U.S. households will hand out candy to trick-or-treaters this year. And 78 percent of the parents surveyed confessed to dipping into their kids’ seasonal candy stashes!

There’s a great way to limit candy consumption for kids as well as adults: the Halloween Candy Buyback. Future of Dentistry participates in this nationwide program every year. It benefits Operation Gratitude, which sends care packages to our troops and veterans.

It’s easy to participate. During the first week of November, we’ll purchase your leftover Halloween candy. We’ll give you $1 per pound for any unopened candy. Each family can decide how much candy they want to sell. You do not need to be a current patient to participate.

The treats will be sent overseas to our troops, along with toothbrushes and floss. According to the Halloween Candy Buyback program, troops who are serving overseas often share the candy with local residents, which helps to foster trust and collaboration.

We love this program because it’s a win-win. Most importantly, our troops receive a positive message of support along with the goodies! Additionally, the kids involved learn about giving back and honoring our troops. They make a small sacrifice, and it limits the amount of candy they have on hand.

Candy drop-offs are welcomed from Monday, Nov. 2 through Saturday, Nov. 7 during our regular business hours:

  • Monday through Wednesday: 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Thursday: 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Friday: 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday: 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Benefits: Use them or lose them!

Once autumn arrives, time starts to fly. After you get through back-to-school, it’s Halloween, then Thanksgiving. Before you know it, the winter holidays will be here and 2016 will be rolling around.paper and pen image

At this time of year, we like to remind patients that they may have unused dental benefits remaining. Many people don’t realize they have benefits that expire at the end of the year. This is one of those things you don’t want to put off. It really is a “use it or lose it” situation.

If you’re not sure of the status of your benefits, don’t worry. Our staff can help you determine your remaining benefits and options. If you are in need of treatment, we’ll make every effort to accommodate your schedule at this hectic time of year.
